Why listen to Mona

This is not theory collected from parenting quotes. It grew from motherhood, classrooms and real conversations with parents.

Mona Ghai is a mother of twins, certified storyteller, bestselling children's author and early-years educator. She first saw the power of stories inside her own home—using them to introduce values, soften difficult moments, create night rituals and give her children a safer language for feelings.

Through storytelling and activity-based sessions, she has also helped parents observe their children more closely, choose stories with intention and extend those stories into art and hands-on activities that keep children happily and meaningfully engaged.

This is the inaugural edition of the Story Parents Masterclass. Mona's authority comes from her lived experience, training, books, education work and parent sessions.

Who this is for

This masterclass is for the parent who is doing a lot—but still misses the feeling of being deeply connected.

  • Your child answers “fine” or “nothing” when you ask what happened.
  • Mornings or bedtime feel like a chain of repeated instructions.
  • Screen time has become the fastest way to keep the day moving, but it leaves you guilty.
  • You want to pass on family values and cultural stories without sounding preachy.
  • You want routines your child participates in, not rules that survive only when you supervise.
  • You would love to tell meaningful stories but often do not know what story to tell.
  • You save activity ideas but rarely have the energy to plan or organise them.
  • You want your child to remember how home felt—not only what you bought or taught.

Behind the screen struggle or unfinished routine is often a quieter fear: “Am I becoming only the person who corrects, reminds and rushes my child?” Story Parenting creates a different role—the parent who listens, notices and becomes a safe place for the child's inner world.

Why now, not next month

Every week you wait, the pattern gets a little harder to change

Nothing dramatic happens in one week. That is exactly the problem—the drift is quiet, and one day the closeness you assumed you had feels harder to reach.

The window narrows

Between 4 and 10, children are still choosing you as their first listener. Once they stop bringing you the small things, they rarely bring you the big things later.

Screens fill the silence

Whatever space you do not fill with connection gets filled by a device—and every week of that habit takes longer to unwind.

Correction becomes your default voice

Repeat instructions long enough and your child starts hearing a manager, not a safe place. That role is much harder to change than to prevent.

Feelings stop coming out in words

Children who do not get language for emotions express them through tantrums, withdrawal or “nothing happened”—and parents stop asking.

If you wait

  • Another term of bedtime negotiations and morning battles.
  • More saved reels, still no ritual your family actually does.
  • The same guilt at 9 PM, promising tomorrow will be different.

If you attend the next session

  • A 10-minute ritual you can run the very same night.
  • Stories matched to the exact situations your child struggles with.
  • A calmer way to correct that keeps the connection intact.

The masterclass is free and runs live only on Thursdays and Sundays at 11:00 AM IST. Registration for a session closes at 12:00 PM on the day it runs—after that you wait for the next one.

A different pattern

Parenting does not need another longer checklist. It needs a more connected pattern.

The exhausting old pattern

  • Repeat the same instruction louder
  • Ask direct questions when the child is closed
  • Search randomly for a story every night
  • Remove the screen and leave an empty space
  • Explain values through long lectures
  • Expect consistency through willpower
  • Try to become a perfect parent

The Story Parenting pattern

  • Create a predictable ritual around the transition
  • Use a character and story to make feelings safer to discuss
  • Build a reusable story bank around the child's persona
  • Replace it with a story-led activity and shared attention
  • Let the child experience the value through a character's choice
  • Use a small cue, ritual and connection close
  • Become a more present and observant parent

The new way is not permissive parenting. It combines warm connection with clear, age-appropriate structure.

The Story Parents Model

See the child. Shape the story. Share the moment.

See the Child

Before changing the story, understand the child. Observe the child's temperament, interests, patterns, strengths, sensitivities and current emotional need. The same story will not speak to every child in the same way.

Shape the Stories

Create a personal Story Bank organised around the situations your family actually faces—friendship, fear, patience, courage, routines, mistakes, honesty, sibling conflict, cultural identity and change.

Share the Moment

Use one story, one reflective question, one value or emotion and one simple connection close. When appropriate, extend the experience through a drawing, role-play, movement game, sensory prompt or family ritual.

One story. One question. One value. One connection close.

Inside the 90 minutes

Why ten connected minutes can change the emotional tone of an ordinary day

  • How to notice what your child may be communicating beneath behaviour.
  • How to choose or create stories that match the child's present needs.
  • How to build a personalised story bank instead of searching every evening.
  • How to extend a story into a simple DIY bonding activity.
  • How to create a 10-minute ritual that can support expression and predictable routines.
Taught live

The three secrets taught in the masterclass

1Secret 1

The Child Persona Lens

Discover why a story that delights one child may not reach another—and learn the key observations that help you choose the right emotional doorway for your child.

A simple way to recognise the child's current persona, interests and emotional need before selecting a story.

2Secret 2

The Personal Story Bank

Learn how to stop searching for a new idea every night and begin building a reusable bank of stories personalised to your child, family values and real-life situations.

A practical structure for sorting stories by emotion, value, situation, age and interest.

3Secret 3

The Story-to-Connection Ritual

Learn how to turn a story into bonding space through a simple DIY activity, reflective question and repeatable family ritual—without creating another time-consuming project.

A 10-minute flow that helps move from listening to expression and shared action.

What can begin to change

What can begin to change when connection becomes a ritual—not an occasional good day?

More emotionally safe conversations

More emotionally safe conversations

Stories give children distance from a difficult feeling. They can first talk about the character and gradually find words for themselves.

More predictable family routines

More predictable family routines

A repeated cue and ritual can make transitions feel familiar, reducing the need to invent a new response every day.

A personalised connection language

A personalised connection language

Parents learn which characters, themes, questions and activities help their own child engage.

Values children can experience

Courage, honesty, patience, kindness and resilience become choices inside memorable stories rather than abstract instructions.

More meaningful screen-free alternatives

A story gives context to art, movement, pretend play and sensory activities, making them easier to begin.

Family memories and cultural continuity

Folktales, family incidents, festival memories and grandparents' stories can become part of the child's emotional inheritance.

Less pressure to be perfect

The system asks for ten intentional minutes, not an entire day of planned enrichment.

Every child and family is different. Outcomes depend on age, needs, consistency, environment and many other factors. The masterclass provides educational tools, not guaranteed results.

  • You want someone else to entertain your child while you remain uninvolved.
  • You are not currently able to invest 10 minutes regularly.
